To get involved in Medical Billing, there are two main requirements, experience and formal training. Look into your local accredited community colleges. Many colleges offer certificates or degrees in medical billing and coding and offer placement assistance for their graduates. Most correspondence courses are not accredited and are not recognized by most employers so be careful. You should also seek to be fully certified. You should become a Certified Coding Specialist or a Certified Professional Coder so that health care providers can give your service serious consideration. To gain the necessary experience you should consider doing it on a voluntary basis for a health care provider as medical billers are not considered if they lack experience but most health care providers will not hire billers without it.
