Home Assembly

Written by HmD on 8/28/2008 05:56:00 PM

I will spend little time on this topic as I think it requires only a short time to let you know how this work from home job sucks. This is one of the worst work from home opportunities that is available. Some have benefited but most do not. Most of these jobs are scams and those that are not, get lost in the sea of scam home assemble "Jobs" that are available.

How these jobs works, is that you pay an initial application fee for the items you are to assemble in addition to reading material, then the company sends items to be assembled to make finished goods like toys, CD cases etc. You then submit the assembled items to the company and theoretically, you are to get paid per finished goods assembled.

What usually happens however is that you never get paid. They almost always claim that the items were not assembled properly and because of this, they refuse to pay you. So what they actual do to make money is to sell items for assembly into finished goods and reading material on how to assemble the finished product. I have also heard that some of these companies sells the items that they claim were not assembled properly, and so they profit by this sale and the initial application fee.

If you have been scammed by these companies, please contact the Federal Trade Commission, but I can tell you from now that it is very difficult to prove that you assembled the items properly or within the companies standards. A good way to help with this though is to make a video recording of the items assembled, but even this may not be sufficient.

If you are interested in home assembly, but do not want to be scammed, stay away from online home assembly jobs where:

  • The companies website has out of date information and excessive broken links;
  • Websites are unprofessional and tacky;
  • There is no contact information or help desk;
  • Help Desk is difficult to contact;
  • There are no money back guarantees;
You should also check online forums about the home assembly job you are interested in and be careful of those companies that offer big paydays, as realistically, why would someone pay you thousands of dollars per month to assemble finished goods from home when the average in house company assembler is paid close to minimum wage.

If home assembly is what peaks your interest, then go for it, but be very very careful and prepare to loss some money.

Customer services from home

Written by HmD on 8/25/2008 06:41:00 PM

When most think of a job in customer services, they think of long hours around a phone or in a bank or convenience store helping customers to find the products they need or answering the thousands of questions that comes to them on a daily basis. The difference between what has just been described and being a customer services rep. from home, is that, you perform the services from the comfort of your home and most importantly, the earning potential is greater. The foregoing reasons along with the increased demand for work-at-home customer service representatives, has led to increased interest in the industry from persons looking for work at home opportunities. Companies have driven this increased demand as they seem to prefer to contract an agent or service company to provide the service from home than to have full time staff and purchase the required infrastructure (hardware and software) to support quality customer care. The savings that companies achieve as a result of the foregoing has led to increases in the earnings of work at home customer services reps to an average of $13 per hour, which is far above the rate that is payed to full time employees which averages about $8.50 per hour.

Basic Company requirements

There are many different responsibilities of a customers service department within a company. The functions ranges from handling customer queries, communicating company products to customers, providing technical support etc. For these responsibilities companies need some basic things which will also be necessary if you intend on providing customer rep services. The foregoing equipment is as follows:

  • A high speed computer;
  • A DSL or Cable modem for a fast internet connection;
  • An up to date operating system for your computer;
  • An up to date Internet application;
  • A phone line for use in providing the service;
  • A quiet working environment;
  • In some instances, companies may already have a customer services software that they will give to you to help you serve their customers;
  • Basic computer skills; and
  • Self motivatation(This is important as you will not have a supervisor at your back to motivate you to work.)

Companies may also require you to take training courses developed by them and may require you to complete typing, writing and language tests. Some companies have gone as far as to require drug tests and in most cases will do background checks on whoever will be representing the company as a customer services rep. Companies may also require that you are bi-lingual or have persons on your team who are bilingual.

Errand Service

Written by HmD on 8/25/2008 09:35:00 AM

The management of time is critical as it relates to the generation of wealth and as such, many companies and individuals have chosen to order their affairs in such a way that their time is spent efficiently. One step they usually take to ensure that their time is spent efficiently and on those things that generate income, is to contract people to run errands for them, rather than using their own staff. Apart from companies though, their are individuals who, because they are ill or have some sort of disability, are strapped for time or just had a child, are willing to pay someone to run errands for them. For years many have chosen to start errand services because of the foregoing reasons and have survived doing it, some making up to 40,000 per year.

There are seven facts you should know about Errand services:

If you have a vehicle, your start up costs will be relatively low, which makes errand services so attractive for persons seeking to set up their own business.

Just like any other business, advertising is key. There are many errand services, and as such you have to promote your service so that you can get the clients you want. There are many ways you can advertise, but the methods that usually works for this kind of business are, advertising on craigslist, advertising in your local newspapers, posting flyer's and posting your business on bulletin boards and on forums. You can also place advertisements on the vehicle you use to do your errands.

The most cost effective vehicle to use for running errands is a motor bike. Bikes use much less gas and require less maintenance than a car or van, so having a bike for small deliveries and cars for large deliveries may be the best cost effective method to use.

Holidays are great for errand runners. The Christmas holidays is usually the peak for errand runners and so if you are interested in starting a similar business, you should pay special attention to this period. During off peak periods you can approach nursing homes and parents with new born babies to earn revenue.

The fees that you charge should be based on the market rates, the type of package being delivered and the distance you have to travel. Services generally averages between $25 to $125 per hour for general services.

Errands can be done online. If you are at the point where you can have a website, then requests can be made online. Some in the industry calls it Virtual Assistance, which has grown over the years and is currently a 250 million dollar industry.

Ensure that you check your local and state regulations before you start your errand business.

Be careful of the packages you deliver. Some criminals may pose as legitimate business and ask you to deliver illegal items for them. Try to run errands for established businesses.

Errand runners can be the target of robbers, so you have to be careful of where deliveries are to be made. It is good to blacklist unsafe locations.

Your availability is key to persons who require the services of a errand runner. You have to be readily available and easy to contact or you will lose customers very quickly.

Programming from home

Written by HmD on 8/24/2008 04:58:00 PM

Computer programming is a highly demanded skill and career that many have become interested in over the years. Many have been successful freelance programmers and have done it from the comfort of their own homes. Generally, computer programmers are responsible for creating, editing, writing, maintaining, testing and updating the source code of computer programs. Computer Programmers work with both hardware and software, but mostly software.

As technologies becomes more advance and as business seek to integrate their processes with computer software, so grows the need for programmers. The allure for freelance programmers has also grown, as many companies find it less costly to outsource their service rather than hiring someone full time as a programmer. Experienced and well trained programmers have chosen to leave the nine to five setting to own their own programming business. The more qualified and experienced you are, the better will be your chances of gaining a large enough client base, so that you can earn enough to live a comfortable life.

To become a freelance programmer you will require the necessary skill sets. You need to have an interest in everything computing and have an interest in increasing your knowledge as software and technology changes. You need to have entrepreneurial skills, be able to market your service and be involved in social networking to promote your services.

Certification is also required. There is no one certification that is required for a business like freelance programming, however, some amount of formal training is required. You can contact your local universities and colleges to see what kind of training programs are available. You may want to get a diploma in Computer Programming, for example, or a degree (BA or BSc) in Computer Science or Information Systems. You can also get officially certified with Microsoft or Cisco. You may also consider doing an online course.

Like any other business, a good business plan is necessary. You should outline your short term and long term goals, identify the risks associated with achieving each goal and seek resolutions that will help you to avoid these risks. This business may take a while to gain momentum, so it is important that you continue working full time until you start earning enough to resign. Some experts have said that you should resign when you start making three times your current salary. The good thing about freelance programming is that start up costs are typically low as the most important requirement for a freelance programmer is knowledge and experience.

The amount of clients you will have depends on your level of competence, your certification, your work habits, and motivation to succeed. You may need to do quite a lot of advertising as their are so many freelance programmers in the market. Advertising on craigslist, word of mouth, brochures and advertising on forums tend to draw clients. The development of a website or blog with the services being provided may also help. In addition to advertising, freelance programmers has to consider the areas where the most money can be made. Currently, programming for Gaming and Web Development are highly demanded. Internationally, the combination of PHP, MYSQL, PERL, CGI, PYTHON, Java are also highly demanded and if you have experience with databases like Oracle9i and MySql you can live comfortably of your earnings. Mobile computing also seem to have taken off in the past couple of years.

Qualified computer programmers can earn a great deal of money. The average earnings per year for freelance programmers is 60,000, but much more can be earned with experience and notoriety. Medical Billing from home

Written by HmD on 8/18/2008 11:59:00 AM

So how much can I earn from Medical Billing from home? Some have made up 50,000 per year and with the growing needs for experienced and qualified billers, this amount should increase over the next couple of years. You have to cash in quickly however, as with better technology, these needs may dissipate over time, but currently you can earn a good living from it. So what is medical billing? Medical billing is the processes involved in receiving payments from insurance companies for services rendered by a health care provider to the insured. The processes involve collecting data like patient information for completion of insurance claims forms and entering it into a patient accounting software program. Some of the more popular medical billing softwares are Lytec and Medisoft, but there are others that are available for use. Some medical billers may be asked to verify patient benefits before a the hospital provides health care and they most be aware of the guidelines for submitting electronic and paper claims to insurance companies. Billers most also know how to follow up on the patients and other third parties and how to deal with claim denials. They most be aware of the appeals process, know how to check for errors on claims to avoid denials and is also responsible for following up on amounts owing to the hospital and to determine what amount is to be written off or charged to the patient. Billers are also involved in reporting to the health care providers on the state of patient accounts, where their money is going, if he or she is losing money on certain insurance contracts, etc.

To get involved in Medical Billing, there are two main requirements, experience and formal training. Look into your local accredited community colleges. Many colleges offer certificates or degrees in medical billing and coding and offer placement assistance for their graduates. Most correspondence courses are not accredited and are not recognized by most employers so be careful. You should also seek to be fully certified. You should become a Certified Coding Specialist or a Certified Professional Coder so that health care providers can give your service serious consideration. To gain the necessary experience you should consider doing it on a voluntary basis for a health care provider as medical billers are not considered if they lack experience but most health care providers will not hire billers without it. If you attain the required education and experience you can be successful in owning a home-based Medical Billing service.

Blogging for money

Written by HmD on 8/18/2008 04:35:00 AM

Blogging has grown over the years as a means to share ideas and share lifestyles. Blogs are usually written in a personal tone and acts as a journal of someones personal life or ideas that individuals want to share with others. Apart from the foregoing however, many have also seen blogging as a means to earn a living.

Earnings are usually generated by using advertising programs like Google Adsense and widget bucks, affiliate programs like amazon and Click Bank, selling books written by the blog owner, running online seminars and courses, writing blogs for companies, blog flipping (selling blogs) and donations from readers. Some have even been asked to give conferences, to share their views publicly; this however is usually for persons with expertise in a particular area. So how do I get started? getting started is pretty easy. All you need is a computer and an internet connection and your good. I recommend that beginners use blogger from Google to start a blog, as in my opinion, it is geared more for the first time blogger than all the other options. It provides free templates, it is intuitive and most importantly, it is hosted by Google for free. More experienced bloggers tend to set up their blogs using there own templates, as this provides much more flexibility. Whatever means is used to start a blog, one thing is constant, when monetized, it can be very rewarding with dedication, patients and hard work.

Just like any other business, say a supermarket, the amount of products sold is based on the amount of customers that walks through their doors. The same thing applies to the blogger. The more traffic you have is the more you are likely to make money from blogging. Traffic generation is the single most important element of a successful money making blog. Every blogger has however struggled in generating traffic at some time or the other. Those that have overcome these issues, has done the following:

Some bloggers comment on posts from other blogs, forum and sites, leaving a link to their blog on the comment. They ensure that the comment is relevant to the topic that was discussed and never attempt to sell their blog too much.

Others use social bookmarking sites like Socialmedian and Digg to publish their posts.

Some have entered or hosted blog carnivals to generate traffic. Blog carnivals are events hosted by a blog owner to showcase posts from other bloggers on a particular topic.

Bloggers also try to exchange links to other blogs. When another blog, especially a blog that gains high traffic, places a link to your site on their blog, then there is an increased opportunity for you to gain traffic.

Some have advertised using products like Google Adwords, this method will however cost you.

Writing about current news and relating the same to the main purpose of blogs seems to work for some.

Others have answered questions on Yahoo questions leaving a link to their blog with the answer.

Finally, some have advertised their blog on Craigslist, which I don't do, but which has worked for a couple of people I know.

Most money making blogs uses or have used all or a selection of the foregoing methods to add traffic to their site, however, adding traffic is one thing, but maintaining it is another. To maintain traffic you have to ensure that your content is current, accurate and fresh. By fresh I mean new. New ideas will help to keep your viewers interested in your blog. You also have to have a good balance between being personal and professional in your posts. Some viewers tend to like blogs that are not too personal but lets them feel that they are socializing with someone of like passions rather than just an entity. You have to promote interaction with your viewers with yourself and the blog itself. To promote interaction with the blog, simple games and widgets that allows the viewers to leave their photographs and in some cases leaving telephone numbers to allow direct contact if you don't mine that kind of stuff can help. You also have to respond to comments; do not leave your commenter's hanging, whether their comments are good or bad.

Overall, blogging requires tremendous patients, but can be rewarding if you stick with it. The trick is not to give up, socialize with other bloggers, sign up and participate in blogging forums and read read read on the subject.

Translators

Written by HmD on 8/17/2008 01:59:00 PM

With increased globalization, has come the need for persons who can bridge the gap between cultures, societies and regions. A major gap that has to be filled is the language barrier that exists between countries and continents. The foregoing issue was traditionally dealt with by contracting freelance translators for specific projects, by hiring a full time translator, hiring bilingual persons or training current staff. With better technology, the market for work at home translators have gained ground on the other mentioned options as it is one of the cheapest options. Additionally, with rising prices for raw materials and inventory, companies have been trying to find alternative providers of the same. This usually leads them to look outside of their own country for the products they need and as such, translators are necessary to assist with initiating and closing deals, so, if you are bilingual, your skill may be needed. Companies however seek translators through staffing services such as TRADUguide, SDL International, Melnychenko, WorldLingo, and ENDOS, which in turn offer jobs that you can do from your home computer.

Being bilingual however is not sufficient, you have to be fluent in your main language and your secondary or tertiary languages, you have to be versed with translation and also have some experience doing translations. If you possess the foregoing, then companies will pay you well for your services. Some have earned enough on one assignment to carry them through an entire month.

If you are searching for a database with translation jobs and agencies you can check out this site for starters http://www.translatorsbase.com/

Also, when looking for a work from home job in the field, consider the following:

Ensure that your PC is virus free as many CV's gets lost in the mail as they get caught in agencies firewall and get deleted.

Ensure that you apply for a job that you can actually do. Do not apply for a translation job which requires a French to English translation when you are fluent in neither language. Recruiters tend to be frustrated by these mails and may spam you.

Remember to detail the reference number of the position you want so that it is easier for the recruiter to know what position you are applying for.

Always provide rates for your service. Charge rates in line with the market. You can check online forums and established entities to determine what rate you should charge. You can see some rates by checking

The truth about online data entry jobs

Written by HmD on 8/15/2008 05:46:00 PM

Legitimate data entry jobs are very difficult to get and hardly provides the earnings they say they do. In most cases data entry jobs entails, typing data into an online form to set up Pay Per Click search engines in an effort to sell items for companies. You would expect that payment would be dependent on what is typed, however, you are usually payed only if the companies product is sold. Additionally, you may have to pay advertising fees which is usually never mentioned when you purchase your start up kit. When you check their sites they are usually tacky, unprofessional and has very vague content. Realistically, you can only make what you have spent, so don't get your hopes up too high. Additionally, do not be snagged by accounts of people making hundreds a week and do not be fooled when they show you the checks they get for their efforts as adobe photoshop is excellent for altering images. In light of all the foregoing, how can I identify a legitimate data entry position? here are ten ways:

  1. Legitimate data entry jobs usually do not require any start up payments;
  2. Most legitimate data entry positions should offer a salary or pay based on the amount of words that are typed.
  3. Since you are being employed by companies, they usually will ask to have an interview with you and test your WPM(Words per minute). If data entry programs states that you do not need any experience, then it is a sign that they are scams.
  4. Ensure that the websites for these programs looks professional;
  5. Do some research. Visit forums and do searches online to determine if the program you are interested in is legitimate;
  6. Companies who require someone to do data entry for them rarely sends mass emails. These companies do not spam, so keep clear of those that email you;
  7. Avoid data entry positions that offers big money for little work. Generally, data entry positions offers on average between 25K to 40K per year, a far cry from the 2K per week that some data entry "scammers" offer. Think about it, why would a company pay someone more to do data entry from home than the person who has to commute to work everyday and who does more work;
  8. If it is extremely difficult to contact the programs customer service to get details of the job then stay away;
  9. Job descriptions are usually well detailed when they are being advertised online, so look for programs that have current information and a detailed explanation as to what the data entry program involves; and
  10. Legitimate data entry programs usually do not pay you to refer anyone to the program.

If you really want to do data entry from home, your best bet is to start a secretarial service or check out onss, as they usually have data entry openings.

Ten important things you should know about HYIP's

Written by HmD on 8/14/2008 03:24:00 PM

High-Yield Investment Programs or HYIP’s are what the name implies, investment programs that in theory should provide high yields. The unfortunate thing is that with all its promise it usual fails to provide high yields or any at all, as they are, in most cases scams. HYIP owners mostly operate HYIP’s over the web and usually offer returns of 10% to 45% per month. They usually offer many different investments schemes and uses third party exchangers to act as payment intermediaries between themselves and their clients. HYIP’s do not usually provide much verifiable evidence of their legitimacy and in most cases are very difficult to contact. Generally, they operate like pyramid schemes as those who invest early gain and those who invest in the later stages pay those who invested before them. Eventually, those at the bottom of the pyramid are scammed. There are many who profit from these programs and here are ten ways they do this. Note however that even though some profit as a result of the items mentioned below, some scams displays all the elements of a legitimate company, so be careful.

  1. Since most HYIP’s operate like pyramid schemes, it is important that participants get in early and leave just as quickly.
  2. Do not role your investments, that is, withdraw all earnings as you get them to protect you if the program is a scam. Stay away from any scheme that locks your investment and profits for protracted periods.
  3. Check the HYIP monitors regularly to determine whether the programs are paying. Be careful however, as some of these HYIP monitors works for the HYIP’s. Additionally, scams will usually ensure that they pay the large HYIP Monitors to give the impression that their program is legitimate. You can also check forums surrounding the HYIP you are interested in.
  4. Ensure that you do not place all your eggs in one basket, that is, ensure that you use the funds that you plan to invest on a number of well paying HYIP’s rather than on one. This helps to protect your investment against scams.
  5. Invest in those HYIP’s that seem reasonable. The higher the level of interest the higher the probability that the program will turn out to be a scam.
  6. Only invest funds you are willing to lose. With the prevalence of scam artists that operate HYIP’s there is huge chance that you will lose all your money.
  7. Only invest with those HYIP’s that you can contact easily. Try to contact them before you invest as scams usually have minimal contact with their clients.
  8. Invest small amounts first and then if the program pays, you can increase the amount of your investment.
  9. Stay clear from HYIP’s that are vague as it relates to how they invest your money and where they are located. You should also ensure that they have a contact number.
  10. Ensure that the HYIP’S website looks professional. Scams tend to look unprofessional and share similar HTML coding.
