How to start an employment agency

Before and during a rescission, loss of jobs are inevitable, and if you are able to provide jobs as an employment agency during this period, you will be well positioned to be successful in the industry. Can I earn a good living from this business? well, earnings are dependent on the fee structure you choose and ranges from $40,000 to $120,000 per year.

It is not easy to start up this kind of business so that it can be successful, but here a few tips to help you get started:

Start up costs are usually minimal, especially if you intend on starting from home and then branching off to an office setting when you are established. If you choose to rent an office,
acquire equipment like computers, printers and a fax machine etc, you may be able to get a small loan from a lending institution to do so.

Ensure that you do not price yourself out of the market. Call employment agencies in your region and enquire about their pricing structure. This should give you an idea of the fee structure you need to have.

Ensure that your business is registered, as all business owners have to register their business with their local authorities even if you operate from home.

Get a dedicated telephone line for use in the business.

Research the laws relevant to the provision of your service and tailor your operations around the foregoing.

You should have a target market. A good niche to start with is students that have just graduated from college and high school.

Ensure that you advertise your services to companies before accepting resumes and applications from your customers. A good means of advertising is the development of a brochure which outlines the services you are providing. You can also advertise on Craigslist.

Develop relationships with other agencies. Agencies that cannot provide the type of jobs that their customers require may subcontract you to find jobs for them.

Probably the most important thing you need to consider is that you need to be able to identify quality people to refer to companies. The people who you refer to companies represents your business and if they do a poor job, then this will not vote well for you. You have to ensure that you check references, ensure that the people are qualified for the positions they require, have the necessary experience and do not have questionable backgrounds.

You should do a background check on the people that would like to be placed in jobs by your business.

Ensure that you do background checks on the companies that would like your assistance in staffing their companies. You need to protect your workers.
